2009 Walk for Wishes® Funds Will Grant More Than 26 Wishes!

We did it! The morning of Saturday, May 9, turned out to be a perfect day for a stroll through the Detroit Zoo – and more than 1,200 Make-A-Wish® friends and supporters did just that at the Walk for Wishes. Thanks to our dedicated walkers, we raised nearly $200,000 – enough to grant wishes to more than 26 Michigan kids with life-threatening medical conditions.

We were thrilled to capture so many fun photos and videos from the 2009 Walk for Wishes.

Congratulations to our top fundraising teams: Wish Family Team: Team Alyssa, Corporate Team: CSM Worldwide Inc., Friends and Family Team: Faith in Action and School Team: Hayes Elementary.

The 2009 Walk for Wishes featured some fun surprises. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Michigan celebrates its 25th birthday this year, and we learned we share that birthday with Kintla, the Detroit Zoo’s grizzly bear! At the end of the walk, walkers and volunteers broke into a chorus of Happy Birthday.

Radio Disney was on site to rock with the walkers, and deejays even hosted a special hour-long show with games and prizes. Whole Foods Market and Cosi once again provided delicious food for the event, and Creative Arts Studio hosted fun ceramic projects for the kids.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation offers a heartfelt thank you to all our event sponsors and supporters, especially our lead sponsor UAW-GM, our joy sponsor Kohl's, our hope sponsor Cosi, and our strength sponsors Michigan UAW CAP Council, Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe, Zeidman's Jewelry & Loans of Michigan.
